Food Drive for the Food Bank of Mitchell County

Our area in southwest Georgia is home to many people who live at or below the poverty level. Many of these people often have trouble coming up with enough money to provide a decent meal for themselves and their family. In response to this need, The Food Bank of Mitchell County, located in Pelham, was organized by a group of caring Mitchell County citizens including Pelham Rotarian Jimmy Godwin. Each year, this organization provides hundreds of people from all over Mitchell County with the staple goods that they need to live a happy and healthy life.

The Pelham Rotary Club stands behind this organization and we help them in any way we can. In previous years we have purchased items that were needed for the daily operation of the food bank but in recent years we have begun having a food drive for items that the bank is short on. Last year it was grits and peanut butter. This year there was a need for canned vegetables. Our Rotarians once again answered the call and donated dozens of cans of food along with a sizable amount of money to help the food bank serve the underprivileged in our county.  The impact of a project like this cannot be overstated. It is an opportunity for our Rotarians to directly impact the daily lives of people in our community who are in desperate need of help.
